How to connect your Windows XP PC to your Xbox 360?

The following steps show you how to turn your XBOX 360S into a media centre for playing audio and video files that are stored on your home computer. There are two methods of doing this: Installing Microsoft Media Centre or using Zune which is software developed by Microsoft that's similar to iTunes but for use with its Zune device. These steps cover the latter method as its my prefered option for several reasons i won't go into.

This only works with Windows 7 or Windows XP with service pack 3.

  1. Download Zune player (here)
    1. Run the Zune software setup on your PC
    2. During Zune setup, you may be asked where your movie, pictures and audio files are stored.
  2. Turn on the Media Sharing:
    1. In the Zune software, click Settings-?Xbox 360
2. Set your media sharing options, then click OK.
    3. Enter a collection name (You will see this on the XBOX)
    4. Select to share with all xboxes (you lucky sod) or just a selection (wow!)
  3. Configure the Xbox 360:
    1. Go to the Media section, select Music, P{ictures or Video
    2. Select Collection name you entered in 2.3, press the A button.
    3. Select YES, Continue, press the A button.
    4. Make sure your collection is visible.
    5. Press B button repeatedly to return to the Media Section.
    6. Repeat to add other media selections.
